Introduction

The House of Peril is the original Howard story featuring Mike Dorgan and Bill McGlory. Fiction House accepted it after submission on April 20, 1931, but Action Stories altered the story for its October 1931 publication: Mike Dorgan became Steve Costigan, the China Moon became the Sea Girl, a reference to Costigan’s bulldog Mike was added, and the story appeared under the title Blow the Chinks Down!. Howard received $75.
