Introduction

Irony is a dramatic sketch set in a confectionery shop. Its central exchange pits Costigan, a writer, against Gloria, who argues that people can remake themselves through will and ambition, while Costigan insists that some traits cannot simply be wished away. The argument is tested when a later confrontation turns suddenly violent.

Textual states

Shown in a practical developmental order where possible: synopsis/outline, numbered drafts, submission states, then published or posthumous states. This display order does not itself assert exact chronology or textual authority.
