Introduction

“Dula Due to be Champion” is Howard’s account of the July 13, 1928 bout in Fort Worth between Arthur “Kid” Dula and Duke Tramel. It was published in the Brownwood Bulletin on July 18, 1928.

Although the official decision went against Dula, Howard argued that Dula’s resilience, punching power and aggressive fighting spirit marked him as a future middleweight champion. He singled out Dula’s comeback in the fourth round and his refusal to fold under punishment in the eighth, while identifying lack of experience as the fighter’s chief weakness.
