Introduction

“Drag” is an unfinished fragment of about 160 words. Bibliographies have often described it by its opening, “It was a strange experience . . .”, but the surviving typescript bears the notation “Drag” and “11 pages” at the top; “Drag” has therefore been adopted as the title.

The narrator is William “Drag” Buckner. The fragment also names Gordon, Steve Allison (the Sonora Kid) and Lal Singh, and refers to earlier adventures involving Steve, Gordon and an incident in Afghanistan. It first appeared in Western Tales.
