The Road to Bear Creek is a Breckinridge Elkins story. Howard’s agent, Otis Adelbert Kline, received it on March 19, 1934. The story sold for $50; after the Kline Agency’s commission, Howard received $42.50.

Howard later altered the story slightly and incorporated it as Chapter 7 of the novel A Gent from Bear Creek.
