The Fire of Asshurbanipal (2)
Introduction
Howard first wrote The Fire of Asshurbanipal as a straight adventure story, probably in the early 1930s, and later revised it to give the ending a supernatural element. After Howard’s death, his father submitted the supernatural version to Weird Tales, where it appeared in December 1936. Glenn Lord later discovered the non-supernatural version among Howard’s papers; it was first published in The Howard Collector #16 in spring 1972.
