Introduction

The Fighting Fury was sent to Street & Smith on June 6, 1931, and later rejected. Howard also sent it to McFadden on June 20, 1931.

In a letter to Tevis Clyde Smith during the week of May 18, 1931 (letter #165), Howard wrote:

And I’ve got plenty to do yet; the Texaco Star appears to want more articles, Farsnworth wants the Baibars story, and I’ve got some stuff I wrote at Marlin — a ring story I want to rewrite for Street & Smith, and a pseudo-scientific junk I want to finish and get off to the Claytons. And with all that work, very likely I won’t sell any of it.

The ring story mentioned here is most likely The Fighting Fury.
