Additional documentary notes

  • Missing page: First Cuts explicitly marks page 13 of the typescript as missing. (Original page 13)
  • Incomplete Continuation: The surviving narrative ends abruptly; First Cuts states this indicates that the draft was intended to continue further. (End of surviving Draft 1)
  • Typed Insertion: The line “After all, we hadn't started there.” appears as a typed insertion and does not appear in Draft 3. (Early discussion with Old Man Richardson)
  • Typed Insertion Uncertain Placement: The line “and rocks shot off the ledge and hit beyond us.” is typed above the main paragraph; First Cuts notes that its intended position is unclear. (Attack on the ledge)
  • Typed Insertion: The line “his sixth man.” is typed directly above “six men to his credit”; First Cuts notes that it does not fit properly. (Bearfield's kill count)
