Introduction

An untitled earlier opening of Swords of Shahrazar, beginning “Feel the edge, dog, and move not!”

The story had been offered to V. I. Cooper for Thrilling Adventures; after a rewrite was requested, Howard substantially changed the opening. The revised story was offered again to Cooper, declined, and later sold to Miller at Top-Notch. This surviving fragment preserves the discarded opening.
