Publication date: September 1975

Introduction

13 previously unpublished poems collected for the first time, with the exception of Empire, of which a shorter version appeared in Weird Tales September 1930, under the title 'Black Chant Imperial'. It is identical to  lines 1-4, 9-12, 21-32, 37-40 of 'Empire'. Se every instance of the poem on Howard Works.

Notes

Saddle stapled, wraps, jacket. Pages not numbered.
263 copies, 20 of which had color covers.

Heavy card cover with dust jacket.
Co-published with Dale Brown.

20 copies of this true edition had a color dustjacket (see right column).
On the color dustjacket, the colored circle is actually glued on to the jacket itself, both on the front and back.

D. J. Kirwan did the paintings for the dust jacket, a noted California artist. The painting on the front of the dust jacket is entitled "And Who Shall Stand Against Them". The painting on the back of the dust jacket is entitled "The Challenger".

Hamilton did a sample mock-up version in 1974 that consisted of 50 copies and contained poems from the Roy Squires chapbooks instead of the poems used in the true edition. The mock-up featured a color dustjacket whereas the actual release has a black & white wrapper.

Content of this publication is different from a publication of the same name published a year earlier.
