Edward Waterman designed and created a website called wanderingplanet.com around 1998-2004 for Wandering Star. The point of it all was to re-establish Robert E. Howard as a classic American author with a wide library base. Here you could buy limited collector’s editions and they hoped one day to expand to different forms and versions, including hardcover, trade paperback and mass market paperback offerings.
The first of these books where ‘The Savage Tales of Solomon Kane‘:
Almost a hundred years ago, Robert E. Howard created the Solomon Kane character. Since then, thousands of Howard fans worldwide have enjoyed collecting these classic stories.
For the first time the Solomon Kane stories are presented in an un-expurgated, artistic and beautiful hard back edition, skillfully illustrated with seven full-color paintings and over two hundred original drawings. The Savage Tales of Solomon Kane comes complete with gilt-edged paper, a golden foil stamped cover, durable stitch binding, and an embossed slipcase cover.
Each book is individually numbered and signed by the artist. One thousand copies of this deluxe limited edition have been printed. Fifty copies of an ultra-limited collector’s edition are also available, bound in goatskin with matching slipcase.
As a bonus, each book comes with a unique compact disc recording of Howard’s Solomon Kane poems dramatically read by Paul Blake with background music performed by Paul Berrow, Michael Berrow, Peter Dale, Roger Taylor, and Jake Roberts. Also included is a folder with an extra set of full-color plates of Gianni’s art.
The Savage Tales of Solomon Kane contains the complete Solomon Kane stories, unabridged and unexpurgated, including unfinished story fragments and synopses with a complete set of textual notes. One of the stories, “The Footfalls Within,” is published here in its original form for the first time since the initial magazine publication in 1931.
Money received over production costs will be dedicated to other projects revealing the depth of Howard’s contributions to literature.
Collected in this volume, lavishly illustrated by award-winning artist Gary Gianni, are all of the stories and poems that make up the thrilling saga of the dour and deadly Puritan, Solomon Kane. Together they constitute a sprawling epic of weird fantasy adventure that stretches from sixteenth-century England to remote African jungles where no white man has set foot. Here are shudder-inducing tales of vengeful ghosts and bloodthirsty demons, of dark sorceries wielded by evil men and women, all opposed by a grim avenger armed with a fanatic’s faith and a warrior’s savage heart.
These books now sell for $600.00 and up to $2000 for the leatherbound limited editions.
After this came ‘The Ultimate Triumph‘. The Ultimate Triumph brings together classic American author Robert E. Howard, universally acknowledged master of the adventure tale, with Frank Frazetta, the master of fantasy art. The reuniting of these two giants has produced an exciting masterpiece incomparable to anything previously published. Just imagine a perfect match… Frazetta’s fierce art equalling Howard’s powerful storytelling.
Collected in this volume are seven stories and five poems which represent some of the best of Howard’s work featuring barbarians. Also included is a forword by Frank Frazetta; an essay from the noted French scholar, Patrice Louinet; a section with excepts from Howard’s letters to H.P. Lovecraft in which he discusses “barbarism vs. civilization;” and… a complete set of textual notes, creating a record of any deviations from the meticulously restored and unexpurgated text.

The Wandering Star Press began their excursion into reprinting Howard’s incredible works and made a great job. Many people don’t really know the depth to which Howard’s fiction has been stretched by authors who took it into their own hands the task of completing unfinished stories or who created new fiction based on Howard’s characters. Like the great publishing house of Donald M. Grant, The Wandering Star Press has taken up the noble goal of gathering works created solely by REH. Wandering Star is no longer as far as I know. I’m not quite sure what happened to them.
