Introduction

‘The Road of the Eagles’ is an REH story and title for which two drafts presently exist. It’s an unpublished historical adventure store that de Camp turned into a Conan story. We know that the story was returned to Howard by Farnsworth Wright for revision on October 4, 1932.

  1. An early draft that Glenn Lord published in the Donald Grant book ROAD OF AZRAEL as “The Way of the Swords.”
  2. A final draft (now at Cross Plains Public Library) that L. Sprague de Camp found and rewrote as “Conan, Man of Destiny,” then later published as “The Road of the Eagles.”

Alternate titles:

THE WAY OF THE SWORDS and CONAN, MAN OF DESTINY.
