“Desert Rendezvous” is an unfinished story by Robert E. Howard featuring Steve Allison, alias the Sonora Kid.

The story

Set in Egypt, the story begins with the Allison family, specifically the feminine members, touring the country. Steve, the younger son, decides to see Khartoum on his own, leaving his family behind in Alexandria. He plans to reunite with them later in Assuan.

When Steve arrives in Assuan, he learns from his sister Marion that their sister Helen has run off with a man named Sir Ahmed Narrudi, described as part Arab and part French, to an oasis in the desert where they plan to marry. Steve, recognizing the danger of the situation, sets off to rescue Helen.

As Helen waits in the desert, she anticipates Ahmed’s arrival but is surprised to see Steve approaching instead. Steve, skilled in desert travel, has ridden hard to reach her, determined to bring her back. Despite Helen’s initial resistance and her romantic ideas about Ahmed, Steve’s protective instincts and strength overcome her objections.
